The Ontario government will scrap its controversial eco fee Tuesday in a bid to quell consumer confusion and frustration from major retailers.
John Gerresten, Environment Minister will announce that the fees retailer stared charging on thousands of new products July 1 will be eliminated, government sources told The Canadian Press.
“The waste diversion program will continue, however, the government will be looking at solutions to the concerns heard from Ontarians about the program that would ensure household hazardous waste continues to be diverted from our landfills, while ensuring that Ontario consumers are protected,” a source said in an email.
